BioBrand Foam has an exclusive license to manufacture surfboard blanks with the patented BioBlank formula. This formula is the result of over 15 years of research and development by Rodolfo Gonzalez of Govan Projects in Costa Rica. Gonzalez is a green technology innovator that has a Masters degree in Polymer and Bipolymer Science, and a PhD in Chemical Science and Technology. He's also a lifelong surfer, with a deep desire to give back to the surfing community and the environment. The convergence of his hard work and passions have resulted in the creation of the world's first bio-based and 100% biodegradable alternative to polyurethane foam.

Small = Mighty

5x smaller cells (than comparable PU foam), and a higher ratio of micro pores makes a structural foam with more flexibility, excellent shape memory, impressive strength, and added buoyancy. It also means our blanks absorb less resin, which makes the finished surfboard lighter and more responsive.

100% Biodegradable and Ozone Friendly

The process to make a surfboard with the standard PU foam is toxic, releasing harmful VOCs into the atmosphere. Our foam is 100% biodegradable and ozone friendly, so it is better for the planet (and shapers working with it).

It takes around 10,000 years for PU and EPS foams to break down when they end up in a landfill. At the end of its surfboard life, when it finally ends up in the landfill, our foam can biodegrade completely in less than a year. That's why recycled foam is good, but biodegradable foam is 10,000x better.
